design & construction – Insulated Concrete Forms (ICF)

In addition to providing a wide range of engineering services, Design & Construction has leaded new construction technologies at the Greek structural market. As a representative of Quad Lock Ltd., d&c imports the patented Insulated Concrete Forms (ICF).

Design & Construction is dedicated to improving our environment & well-being by offering sustainable and resilient building envelopes. Insulating Concrete Forms (ICFs) for walls, floors and roofs create very energy-efficient, comfortable, and safe buildings at a lower total cost of ownership.

Quad-Lock is a panel type ICF wall system consisting of panels, ties, metal track and metal brackets. Quad-Lock Panels are made with high density, fire retardant expanded polystyrene (EPS) which uses no formaldehyde, HFCs or CFCs. Seven panel types and eight types of plastic ties allow virtually limitless design options using standard components.

Plastic ties ingeniously connect the panels and support the reinforcing steel, while also providing a means to anchor drywall, siding and temporary bracing. Metal track is used to start and finish the walls and metal brackets create the strongest corners in the industry eliminating additional outside bracing at corners and angles.

Applications include load bearing walls, shear walls, fire resistant walls, basement walls, retaining walls, and foundation walls incorporated in residential, commercial, and institutional construction.

Can we beat mother nature at materials design?

In nature, wood, shells, and other structural materials are lightweight, strong, and tough. Significantly, these materials are made at the ambient temperature in the local environment — not at the high temperatures at which human-made structural materials are generally processed. Similar materials are difficult[…..]

Nothing, and something, give concrete strength, toughness

What does one need to strengthen or toughen concrete? A lot of nothing. Or something.  The “nothing” is in the form of microscopic voids and the “something” consists of particular particles embedded in the most common construction material on Earth. Rice University materials scientist[…..]
